Faith and Worship According to the Bible: A Spiritual Journey

Faith and worship are fundamental aspects of the Christian faith, deeply rooted in the teachings of the Bible. For millions of believers worldwide, faith serves as the cornerstone of their relationship with God, while worship is the expression of that faith through devotion, praise, and reverence. In this article, we will explore what the Bible says about faith and worship, how these concepts are interconnected, and the significance they hold for Christians. Faith: The Foundation of Belief Faith, according to the Bible, is the bedrock of Christianity. In Hebrews 11:1 (NIV), it is defined as "the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." It's a trust and confidence in God, His promises, and His plan for salvation. Faith involves believing in God's existence, His character, and His redemptive work through Jesus Christ. The Bible is replete with stories of faith, from Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son Isaac (Genesis 22:1-18) ...

Embracing God-Fearing Behavior

The life and teachings of Jesus Christ are a profound source of inspiration for countless people worldwide. Central to Christ's message is the concept of God-fearing behavior, which he exemplified through his actions, teachings, and unwavering devotion to God the Father. In this article, we explore how Christ's life serves as a model for those seeking to embrace God-fearing behavior, regardless of their religious affiliations. Submission to the Divine Will: At the heart of Christ's God-fearing behavior was his submission to the divine will of God. In the Garden of Gethsemane, he prayed, "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done" (Luke 22:42, NIV). This act of surrender illustrates the essence of God-fearing behavior – placing one's trust in God's plan and purpose. Love and Compassion: Christ's teachings emphasized love and compassion for all. He urged his followers to love their neig...

A Christ-centered faith

He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them.”–  2 Corinthians 5:15. Belief in Jesus Christ as the Son of God: Christ-centered faith starts with the foundational belief that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the Savior of humanity. This belief is based on the teachings of the Bible, the central religious text of Christianity. Redemption and Salvation: A Christ-centered faith underscores the concept of redemption and salvation through Jesus Christ. It teaches that through His death and resurrection, Jesus provided a way for humanity to be reconciled with God and attain eternal life. Following the Teachings of Jesus: Those who embrace a Christ-centered faith strive to follow the moral and ethical teachings of Jesus as found in the New Testament of the Bible. This often includes principles such as love, f...

How Do We Pray Effective Prayers?

Image
In these uncertain times, prayer is essential. It is our greatest form of communication with a holy God, who has provided a way for us to not only worship Him but to know Him personally. Through prayer, we discover the depths of God’s mercy and love for us. It is also where we confess our sin and receive His forgiveness. . Still, many avoid prayer. Rather than becoming an opportunity to be cleansed and to fellowship with God, prayer becomes a joyless duty. Perhaps this is because some have never learned the secret of powerful and effective prayers. The question then becomes, “How do we pray effective prayers?” . The Bible tells us, “The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective” (James  5:16 ).  If being a righteous man or woman is the key to powerful and effective prayer, what are the characteristics of a righteous person? . A righteous person is a person who is in right-standing with God. A righteous person has a personal relationship with Jesus as his or her pe...

REASONS FOR UNANSWERED PRAYERS

Image
Don't Just Stand There, Pray Something - Ronald Dunn Habakkuk 1:2 Psalm 13:1 6 REASONS FOR UNANSWERED PRAYERS 1. Prayers are not answered because WE DO NOT PRAY . # You desire but do not have, so you kill.  You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. James 4:2 #  Jehoshaphat Defeats Moab and Ammon 2 Chronicles 20   2.  Prayers are not answered because OF UNCONFESSED SIN . #  David said to Gad, “I am in deep distress. Let us fall into the hands of the  Lord , for his mercy  is great; but do not let me fall into human hands.” 2 Samuel 24: 14 3. Prayers are not answered because OF UNBELIEF IN OUR HEARTS . 4.  Prayers are not answered because OF  UNRIGHTEOUS MOTIVES . 5. Prayers are not answered because OF  UNRESOLVED CONFLICTS . 6. Prayers are not answered because OF UN COMPASSIONATE HEART.

Each Season Has A Purpose

At times, life will seem uncertain. Things we once held as familiar will change. This is when it helps to remember God never changes. Throughout our trials and struggles, He remains the same; faithful and sure. You may be going through a difficult time. No one seeks out adversity. However, when it comes, you can find hope by taking time to see your circumstances as opportunities for God’s glory to be displayed. Self-sufficiency and pride are revealed when we are at our weakest point. God wants us to learn to depend on Him alone. Hard times provide the right opportunity for us to learn God-dependence instead of self-reliance. When it comes to relationships, this is especially true. A temporary setback in a close relationship can become an open door for a fresh commitment and blessing. Remember, each season has a purpose. In times of stress and pressure, one of the most common mistakes is to make permanent decisions based on temporary circumstances. God, however, wants us to b...

Confess your Sins

"Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions."  - Matthew 6:12-15 NASB. . Thoughts for Today . Forgiveness. It's an easy word to use. But what does it really mean to "forgive"? . Jesus used a Greek word which means "to send away." He was telling us that forgiveness means sending the deed away from us regardless of what has been done or said. . This helps us realize that, when God forgives, sins are wiped out and gone forever. David grasped this truth when he wrote, "As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us"  (Psalm 103:12). . Problems can linger menacingly if we have not asked for forgiveness. Perhaps we may not feel worthy or we may wonder if God could forgive us. But the Bible tells us that "If...

Prayer Can Move Mountains

. "When they had prayed, the place where they had gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God with boldness."  - Acts 4:31  . Do you know you’ve been given a very special gift? It’s faith! The Act of Faith prayer captures its essence. With faith God gives each of us supernatural grace to trust in Him and in His word  completely .We give Him our will and intellect so as to better love Him, as Jesus commanded us, with all our heart, soul and mind. Doesn’t it feel good when you  know  can count on someone when they give you their word? Well, God has given us His word, as truth! (His word even became flesh in the person of His Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ!) In faith we trust in Him not blindly but with confidence that in a world full of falsehoods, He’s the real deal! The Act of Faith prayer printed below acknowledges this. It can help recharge your spiritual batteries.       D...

CRUCIFIXION

Image
Definition:  The word  crucifixion  comes from the Latin "crucifixio," or "crucifixus," meaning "fixed to a cross." Roman crucifixion was an  ancient method of execution  in which the victim's hands and feet were bound and nailed to a  cross.  It was one of the most painful and disgraceful methods of capitol punishment. Victims were usually beaten and tortured and then forced to carry their own cross to the crucifixion site. The Roman cross was formed of wood, typically with a vertical stake and a horizontal cross beam near the top. Before nailing the victim to the cross, a mixture of vinegar, gall, and  myrrh  was usually offered to alleviate some of the victim's suffering. Wooden planks were usually fastened to the vertical stake as a footrest or seat, allowing the victim to rest his weight and lift himself for a breath, thus prolonging suffering and delaying death for up to three days. Unsupported, the victim would hang entirely from ...

Kinds of Fasting

Image
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.  - Galatians 6:7-8 A few years ago, I began hearing some wonderful teaching about different kinds of fasting. Although there are some definite benefits to abstaining from food as we pray and seek God about certain matters, I'm not referring to that kind of fasting here. I'm speaking of fasting from certain actions and things in an effort to overcome the sin in our lives. In  Isaiah 58 , God reveals that it pleases Him greatly when we fast from sinful behavior. I have used this Biblical principle to overcome sins in my life that I never thought I could break free from. As the verses above from  Galatians 6  tell us, when we sow seeds of disobedience--seeking to please ourselves and our fleshly impulses--we will reap a harvest ...

God Likes to Work in Ways We Don't Expect

"As surely as the Lord your God lives," [the widow] replied, "I don't have any bread--only a handful of flour in a jar and a little oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it--and die." Elijah said to her, "Don't be afraid. Go home and do as you have said. But first make a small cake of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son. For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: 'The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the Lord gives rain on the land.'" - 1 Kings 17:12-14 NIV   At God's command, the great prophet, Elijah, pronounced a drought over all Israel, because of the wickedness of King Ahab and his wife, Jezebel. Instead of sending His beloved servant to one of the wealthy citizens of the land for ...

The Name Jesus Jesus is the English transliteration of the Greek name Iesus. Joshua is the English transliteration of the Hebrew name Yeshuah. Both Jesus and Joshua mean Yahweh saves or Jehovah is salvation. The name Jesus appears in the Bible more than 900 times. [Transliteration means that the word is not translated from one language to another, but tries to represent the same letters/characters from one language to another. Pronunciation may or may not be preserved.] The Word Christ Christ is not actually a name, but a title. When the Bible talks about the Messiah in the Old Testament , it is referring to the same title as the New Testament calls Christ. Both Messiah and Christ mean anointed one. Jesus was anointed with the power of the Holy Spirit (Acts 10:38) and was the promised redeemer. The first promise of a redeemer in the Bible was in Genesis 3:15. The word Christ appears in the Bible more than 500 times. Jesus’ Titles For Himself Jesus said He was the ...

9 Powerful Gifts of the Spirit From the Bible

Image
W hat are these gifts of the Spirit? How can you know that you have particular gifts of the Spirit? Can others give us an indication of what our gift is? What does the believer do with these gifts in the church? Are some gifts more important than others? Are the gifts of healing still being accessed today by believers? Is the gift of miracles still existent in the church today? Each and every believer has been given by the Spirit of God, gifts of the Spirit. They are not gifts that they have developed my human capacities, therefore the believer has absolutely no right to brag on these gifts. If we exalt in our gifts, we are taking credit for something that we have not earned ourselves. It is like taking credit for a gift you receive on your birthday. It is just that; a gift that was not yours but given to your freely and it is given apart from any inherent capabilities that you have within you. It is not like changing the old hymn from How Great Thou Art to How Great ...

Principle Of Multiplication

http://theblessedlife.com/index.php?a=20120503_theprinciplesofmultiplication ( CLICK THIS LINK TO UNDERSTAND THE PRINCIPALS OF MULTIPLICATION) Key Scripture :- Luke 9:12-17 Points to ponder:-  Something must be blessed before it can multiply. Only what is given away can be multiplied. Food for thought:- do u agree that worry is our way of trying to figure out in advance how god is going to provide for us? Is God always absent from the equation when you worry? In Luke 9:12-17, there was not only enough to feed the multitude, but there was also a lot left over. Consider the followings passage and how it applies to a mind-set of abundance. What can you  do to help yourself maintain a mind-set of abundance through-out the day?

Different Forms of Crucifixions

Image
Crucifixion was an ancient method of execution in which the victim's hands and feet were bound and nailed to a cross . There was a strong social stigma associated with crucifixion, a punishment reserved for traitors, captive armies, slaves and the worst of criminals. Detailed descriptions of crucifixions are few, perhaps because secular historians could not bear to describe the gruesome events of this horrible practice. However, archaeological finds from first century Palestine have shed a great deal of light on this early form of death penalty.   Four basic structures or types of crosses were used for crucifixions: Crux Simplex Image: Justus Lipsius (1547-1606) Crux Simplex was a single upright stake or post upon which the victim was tied or impaled. It was the simplest, most primitive cross used for capitol punishment of criminals. The victim's hands and feet were bound and nailed to the stake using just one nail through both wrists and one nail through both a...

How to Change Yourself

Image
Becoming a Christian requires change. We must remove old habits and develop new ones. This study considers Bible principles to help us improve ourselves: faith, love, repentance, Bible study, prayer, avoiding temptation, and patience. God's word is the best source of guidance for self-help and motivation for self-improvement   Ephesians 4:22-24 shows that major changes must occur when we are converted to serve God. Old practices and attitudes must be replaced by new ones. Christians must learn good habits likeBible study, prayer, love, faith, patience, attending church meetings, giving, teaching others, etc. We must also eliminate bad habits like foul language, uncontrolled temper, gambling, drugs, smoking, drinking, gossip, lying, pornography, sexual promiscuity, etc. Knowing what changes to make is not enough. We also need to know how to make them. Change does not come easily. Since the Scriptures provide us to all good works (2 Timothy 3:16,17), they give all the guidance we ...
